This compilation serves as an excellent entry point for newcomers to Dutch electro, giving a comprehensive summary of the tightly programmed minimal electro-funk that typifies the Clone sound. Standouts include the manic, jittery percussion of Perspects’ ‘Stepwise’ or the intense vocodered funk of Alden Tyrell’s ‘Obsession’.
Unfortunately for long-time collectors of Clone records, this compilation offers no exclusive tracks, making it one for the completists or for those who wore out the grooves on their original copies. A shame, as a couple of new tracks would have made this a compulsory purchase.
