Album

Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash is the first studio album by the American punk rock band The Replacements. It was released on August 25, 1981 by TwinTone Records. The track Somethin' to Dü is a reference to the band Hüsker Dü, contemporaries of The Replacements and their Saint Paul counterparts. The track Johnny's Gonna Die is a reference to influential guitarist Johnny Thunders of the Heartbreakers and New York Dolls. The song refers to his increased heroin addiction and resultant sloppy. Part of the Replacements' appeal always was that they didn't quite fit into any tidy category and nowhere was that truer than on their 1981 debut, Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash. Recorded in the fall of 1980, Sorry Ma was not released until late August 1981 because the Replacements' label, Minneapolis-based TwinTone, could not afford to release it earlier. The album was recorded at a home studio called Blackberry Way, and because the band, label, and manager Pete Jesperson carried so little clout, they had to record whenever they could grab time. As such, recording took about six months. Album 1981 18 Songs. Stuffing 18 songs into 36 minutes, Sorry Ma is a breathless barrage of sloppy, Ramones-style rave-ups that teeter on the edge of hardcore. And on the brooding outlier Johnnys Gonna Die, we get an early glimpse of his burgeoning flair for sobering character studies. The Replacements are an alternative rock group that formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1979. The band originally started off as a hardcore punk outfit but began to incorporate folk and pow read more. The idea of the Replacements has a lot to do with why they've endured, and as archetypes go, it's a compelling one. But sometimes it gets in the way. Before these reissues, when someone would say that the band peaked with their first album, 1981's Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash, I'd assume they were either: 1 a serial contrarian, 2 someone who finds punk rock to be music's greatest expression, or 3 crazy. Surely, the Replacements improved as they went. But now, returning to these records after so long, the debut is best take finally makes some sense. I don't agree with this assessment, not by a long shot, but I can understand why someone might. Completa tu colección de The Replacements.
