Album

As the impetus for the creation of the now highly functioning Miami label Merck, Travis Stewart had faced high expectations for his sophomore release, Salmataxia. Well, as high as anyone can expect from a small regionalized experimental music scene. Tellingly, Stewart has moved away from not only his first release, but much of the gristled Miami IDM sound as found on labels such as Schematic and Beta Bodega. From the beginning you realise one is in for a torrid reckoning from the darker moniker of 'machine drum'. In that sense the album doesn't disappoint, throwing some serious beats and weighty tunes out there with a real sense of humanic void that mocks some of the greats of the genre. Just rediscovered this album today. "Cinco" track is mind-blowing. Released 15 years ago, this album passes the test of time hands down.

From the beginning you realise one is in for a torrid reckoning from the darker moniker of 'machine drum'. In that sense the album doesn't disappoint, throwing some serious beats and weighty tunes out there with a real sense of humanic void that mocks some of the greats of the genre. One of the few idm albums that managed to retrospectively be as good as the sum of it's parts in my opinion, this album is underrated or perhaps hamstrung by its overt sinister execution. If you like cold, dark and intense idm smackdown, then don't miss this.

For a handful of people in the world, this will be a fantastic source for breaking down some inner walls. First time I heard it I couldn't catch on to it, but then when I was there, I was hearing something totally different. Just beautiful.

High octane, dsp, sporadic beats going on here. Obviously inspired by Autechre's 'Conefeild' type structures. The beat sequences within some of the tracks are a little loose around the edges and a little repetitive at times but nver the less a great effort on T Stewarts part. Not bad for a one man band.

Greg_Reason Inspired by Confield! 'Where for Art' sounds directly sampled from Confield, notably 'Lentic Catachresis' Can you prove that? I think you are wrong.
