Oran Etkin is a jazz and world music musician. A native of Israel, after his family moved to Boston he took piano lessons when he was five years old. At fourteen he studied clarinet with Yusef Lateef and George Garzone. He attended Brandeis University and concentrated on economics and classical clarinet. He received a master's degree in jazz from the Manhattan School of Music. He plays alto clarinet, bass clarinet, and tenor saxophone. It is not at all unfeasible that Kelenia is endorsed by no less a world music pioneer than Yusef Lateef. This recording is excellent through and through, comes highly recommended, and sets a new standard for world music in the decade of the 2000s.
