John Prine born October 10, 1946, in Maywood, Illinois is an American country Prine wrote country-folk songs with an unpretentious, aw-heck demeanor that belied their astonishing gravity and power. He sings rather quietly, and his guitar work is good, but he doesnt show off, Roger Ebert wrote of an early Prine show in 1970. Whether youre feeling crazy as a loon or like everything is cool, theres a winking, grinning Prine tune for every dimension of the human experience. Common Sense is a confused, self-indulgent fourth album by a major songwriter gone downhill. Recorded in Memphis and Los Angeles with producer Steve Cropper, nine of John Prines ten new songs have rock settings that feature electric guitars, horns and background vocals. Against an aggressive, choppy sound, Prines material fails in its attempt to imitate the spontaneous style of Bob Dylans Bringing It All Back Home. Intended to be humorously absurd, Prines lyrics string together cryptic aphorisms with a sarcasm that is downright sophomoric. Common Sense is an album by John Prine released in 1975.
